Our Guide To Setting Your 2021 Purpose

Everyone has the same intentions when it hits New Years Eve. ‘New year, New me’ is the standard phrase you hear whenever it hits this time of the year. But, how do you actually set your intentions and find what your purpose is for the year ahead? Here is our guide to setting your 2021 purpose and ensuring that you are fully equipped to live your purpose in 2021.

The first thing you need to do when you are gearing up to set your goals in place for the new year is to reflect on the past year. Reflect on what goals you had set yourself for 2020, reflect on what no longer serves you, reflect on the year of 2020 and everything that happened. Once you have reflected on your past year you should ask yourself the following questions.

What goals did you achieve? What goals didn’t you achieve?

What could you have done differently to achieve your 2020 goals?

What things do you want to ensure you carry over from 2020?

What things do you want to ensure you don’t carry into 2021?

I find it helps to write down your answers to these questions so you are fully aware of your past year and all the things you did well, where you didn’t do so well & what you know you don’t want to repeat in 2021. Your reflections do not have to be negative, they can be positive and they can be how well you did in 2020 and all the things you are proud of. Make sure you look into all aspects of your past year from the good to the bad and everything in between.

Once you have completed your reflection on your past year and you are fully aware of the things you want to carry into 2021 and anything you wish to leave behind or at least work towards changing. Keep this list close by as your set out to set your purpose for 2021.

Setting your goals, intentions & purpose for the year ahead can be difficult and overwhelming. I like to start small and work my way up. Start with something small such as ‘I will walk my dog everyday’. This is an easy goal to achieve and has so many benefits. Then, work your way up to big things such as ‘buying a house’. This is not as easy to achieve however, not completely out of reach. Obviously, small & big goals are completely different for everyone, so whatever your goals and what size it is for you, as long as it is achievable, write it down. Don’t set yourself up for failure, ensure what you are writing down on your list is achievable with some hard work, determination & commitment.

I would suggest aiming for around 8-10 goals. This ensures you can have a variety of different sized goals and are goals for all aspects of your life. Make sure you have goals set for all parts of your life. Set goals for your relationships, work, home, family, physical health, mental health & emotional health. It really can be anything, if it is something that will better you, make you happy, better the people around you and your health then it is a good goal and you should strive towards it.

It is all well and good writing down your goals and having the intention to achieve them, however without a plan of action to achieve these goals you may find that you forget about these goals within a month of 2021. A lot of us can probably relate to this, starting the year off with all of the goals and intentions and then falling off the bandwagon a month in and forgetting it was even a goal of yours. You need to ensure you have a plan of action and steps to help you strive towards achieving these goals.

Whether your goals are to exercise daily, have a happier relationship with your partner or to purchase your dream car you will need to ensure you are doing what it takes so you can achieve these goals. Make sure you set your alarm so you will get up and work out, make sure you are setting time aside to spend with your partner and that you are communicating with your partner, ensure you are saving whatever amount of $ weekly, fortnightly or monthly to ensure you will be able to purchase that car you want. Whatever your goals, and whatever the actions you need to take to achieve them, ensure you set this in stone.

Whatever your Purpose for 2021 may be, you ultimately hold all of the power as to whether or not you achieve these goals. Reflect, find your purpose, set your intentions, work hard. Do what it takes to live your purpose and enjoy your life.
